Illawarra Remembers 1914-1918

As the 100 year anniversary of the Great War approaches, many institutions are expanding their online collections and digitising items that relate to 1914-1918. Extensive work is also being done to catalogue and describe these collections in ways that allow items to be linked across collections and institutions using web technologies.

The Illawarra Remembers website provides an online resource for people seeking information about the region's experience of the Great War. As a tool of remembrance, it also allows users the ability to share their own stories, memories and photographs.

This online resource is being coordinated by Wollongong City Libraries in partnership with the Illawarra Family History Group, Kiama Library, Shellharbour City Libraries and the University of Wollongong.

The stories that are added to the website have been made possible by local families who had shared their precious stories, photographs, documents and memorabilia. These stories were collected during three public Scan & Share days during 2013.
