On 4 August 2014 the Australian War Memorial launched the Roll of Honour soundscape project.
The project initially began with groups of primary-school students between the ages of ten and 12 from across Australia recording the names and ages of death of some of the 62,000 Australians who died in service during the First World War.
ABC Local played a key role in collecting the initial 6,500 recordings that are currently playing in the Memorial's First World War cloisters. It is the Memorial's goal to collect recordings of all 62,000 names that appear on the First World War Roll of Honour.
The Memorial and Google Australia have developed an online recording application, Remember Me, which will allow all primary schools to participate in the project from their classrooms.
